Letter from Ruth Brand to Emil Faubert regarding Sir George Williams recording
Description:
Letter from Ruth Brand, Administrative Secretary of YMCA Programs to Emil Faubert, General Director of the Metropolitan Springfield (Mass.) YMCA regarding the Sir George Williams recording from the Jubilee Celebration in 1894. The letter thanks Mr. Faubert for sending the recording. In 1894, the International YMCA Training School (now Springfield College) held a Jubilee Celebration to recognize the 50th anniversary of the founding of the YMCA by Sir George Williams. Since Williams could not attend the event he wrote a letter to the Jubilee Class and recorded it on a wax cylinder at the Edison House in London. The cylinder was then sent to the Training School where it was played during the Jubilee Celebration. Re-recordings of the cylinder were made around 1936-1947 and in 1964.
