Society for American Baseball Research on Springfield College players (1989)
Description:
A copy of a letter from Cappy Gagnon of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) to the registrar of Springfield College, dated as having been received on December 8, 1989. In the document, Gagnon explains how the SABR is looking for more information on some players that attended Springfield College before WWII. Cappy explains how a lot of information about players before WWII is lost in the shuffle, and the organization is looking to get some information on these players. The second page lists all of the players that attended Springfield College and played professional baseball before WWII. Gagnon is looking for more information on these specific players. The players are Leslie Mann, Harry Kingman, Ralph Mitterling, Edward Twombly, Joseph Bennett, Glenn Spencer, Clifford Crawford, Warren Huston, John Lamabe, Archie Moore, Wayne Granger, and Glenn Adams. The Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) is an organization that collects information on baseball players from all eras, and they post this information on their website for anyone to see. The SABR has biographies for thousands of players, whether they be from the 1920's or from the present, and the site is probably considered the go to for anyone looking for information about certain players in the MLB. It appears that around the year 1989 is when the SABR began to move towards attempting to expand their research on players.
