A note card from F.C. Hewson to Ralph L. Cheney with no date included. In the short letter, Hewson thanks Cheney for his letter of sympathy. F. C. Hewson's son, Charles D. Hewson, died in the battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917. Ralph L. Cheney served as the head of Springfield College’s Secretarial Department from 1907 to 1924. Before taking this position, he worked as a YMCA secretary in Albany and Niagara Falls, New York. Charles D. Hewson was part of the Springfield Class of 1919. He did not graduated, but left shortly after he arrived to join the Canadian troops in World War I - records show that he arrived in September 1915 and left in January 1916. He was killed in action on April 9, 1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
