A four-page letter from Charles D. Hewson to Ralph L. Cheney, dated August 26th, 1916. In this letter, Hewson thanks Cheney for sending a letter in July that raised his spirits and wrote about his recent Camp Borden experiences in Ontario. Charles D. Hewson was part of the Springfield Class of 1919. He did not graduate but left shortly after he arrived to join the Canadian troops in World War I - records show that he arrived in September 1915 and left in January 1916. He was killed in action on April 9, 1917, at the Battle of Vimy Ridge Ralph L. Cheney served as the head of Springfield College’s Secretarial Department from 1907 to 1924. Before taking this position, he worked as a YMCA secretary in Albany and Niagara Falls, New York.
