Letter from C.E. Tice to Ralph L. Cheney (May 2, 1917)
Description:
A two-page letter from C.E. Tice to Ralph L. Cheney dated May 2nd, 1917. In this letter, Tice gives Cheney the address of F.C. Hewson and advises him to write to Hewson, who had recently lost his son Charles D. Hewson. Ralph L. Cheney served as the head of Springfield College’s Secretarial Department from 1907 to 1924. Before taking this position, he worked as a YMCA secretary in Albany and Niagara Falls, New York. Charles D. Hewson was part of the Springfield Class of 1919. He did not graduated, but left shortly after he arrived to join the Canadian troops in World War I - records show that he arrived in September 1915 and left in January 1916. He was killed in action on April 9, 1917 at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
