This is a portrait photograph of Cathie Schweitzer, Director of Athletics of Springfield College (July, 2000). In the photograph, Dr. Schweitzer is sitting at a desk and wearing a white suit jacket with an SC triangle pin on the collar. She is looking at the camera and smiling. Dr. Cathie Schweitzer is a former women's basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma, and the first woman to serve as director of athletics at Springfield College. As an undergraduate, Dr. Schweitzer earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Akron, her master’s from Bowling Green State University, and her doctorate from the University of Iowa. Before Springfield College, she held teaching, coaching, and sports administration positions at Albion College, Iowa, Grinnell College, University of Oklahoma, and Bowling Green. Springfield College hired her as the associate athletic director (1996-1999) and named her acting director of athletics following Ed Bilik’s retirement during the 1998-1999 season. In 2000, she became the school’s director of athletics. Under her direction, Springfield College’s athletics program has maintained its reputation as one of the strongest in Division III. Dr. Schweitzer has also been a driving force behind numerous renovations to the school’s athletics facilities, including a brand new multi-purpose synthetic field turf complex and a new health and wellness center. Dr. Schweitzer was selected as the 2005 Administrator of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA), the chair of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Selection Committee in 2004, and the president of the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators (NADIIIA). She has received numerous accolades for her accomplishments. The label on the back of the photograph says "Cathie Schweitzer Director of Athletics July 2000".
