Postcard from Louis Marchand to Frank N. Seerley (April 7, 1915)

A postcard from Louis Marchand to Frank N. Seerley, dated April 7th, 1915. The front of the postcard has a picture of twenty men standing behind an open gate that leads to an area with buildings facing each other. Behind the men are likely, nine people walking around. At the bottom of the image is the picture's location, which is in Lisieux, a commune in France. On the back, Marchand tells Seerley that two men had a meeting in this location during their service and both send him and his family their best love. Frank N. Seerley graduated from the International Young Men’s Christian Association College in 1890 and began working at the college as an instructor in the same year. He served as a member of the Springfield Board of Education from 1896 to 1912. In 1907, he served as an official lecturer for the American Society of Sanitary and Moral Prophylaxis. From 1917 to 1918, he gave lectures on sex hygiene in encampments for the War Work Council. After World War 1, he served as Dean of Springfield College from 1918 to 1934. Seerley was awarded the Tarbell Medallion in 1942. Louis Marchaud grew up in Le Vesinet, France. He studied law at Paris University and graduated with a BA in 1903. Marchaud worked as a lawyer's clerk for two years, in the military for one year, and as a bank clerk for two years. For eight years he had been volunteer secretary and president at the St. Germain en Laye YMCA. While at Springfield College, he taught night classes at the Springfield High School and the YWCA. During World War I, he served as a soldier in the French Army and was killed during active service in Verdun, France, on June 1, 1916
