Description:
Cartoon, depicting Confederate President Jefferson Davis (in a dress) running from pursuing Union soldiers, while Mrs. Davis tries to intercede on his behalf. According to a bit of post-Civil War apocrypha, Davis has been captured by Union soldiers wearing women's clothing, for which he was lampooned by much popular media of the time. Davis holds a dagger in his right and and clutches a bag of gold in his arm. The Union soldiers in pursuit appear jubilant, waving their weapons and castigating the president.
