This speech was given by Dr. James Naismith at Springfield College on January 5th, 1932. In his speech, he explains the origin of the sport of basketball and how it had changed from when it was created, to the time of this speech. He concludes the speech by saying he wishes everyone could have the “pleasure of having a bunch of fellows come up and say, ‘I am glad I knew you… you have been a help in my life.”.
