Erik K. M. Kjeldsen wrote this letter on February 12, 1963. The recipient is unknown. In the letter, Kjeldsen writes that the New England Gymnastic Federation is considering the creation of a gymnastics clinic that serves the New England area. He writes that a meeting to discuss this possibility will be held on February 22, 1963 at the Framingham Motor Inn. Erik K. M. Kjeldsen graduated from Springfield College in 1954, and went on to earn master’s degree there in 1962. Kjeldsen was a member of the Springfield College Gymnastics Exhibition Team from 1950 to 1954 under the leadership of Coach Judd. He went on to teach physical education and to coach gymnastics at Wellesley High School from 1957 to 1962, and to coach gymnastics at the University of Massachusetts from 1962 to 1972. He retired from the University of Massachusetts as a professor of sport management in 1994 after thirty-two years on the faculty. In 2005, he was inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. He taught undergraduate and graduate courses in sport sociology, history of sport, and leadership in sport at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst Isenberg School of Management. He also served as chief undergraduate adviser for ten years. The New England Gymnastics clinic ran from 1963 to as late as 1980. It was one of the largest gymnastics clinics in the nation and, at one point, the largest in the world.
