This photograph, taken on February 2, 1935, shows a YMCA men’s basketball team. The picture was taken in Mendoza during the Argentina Men’s Basketball Championships. The team was coached by Alberto Regina, who is wearing a suit and seated in the middle. The YMCA brought basketball to Argentina in 1912. The country competed in its first international game in 1921 and held its first clubs championship in 1936.This photograph is part of the Alberto Regina Scrapbook, but was folded over so that it could fit on the page and only part of the photograph was visible in the scrapbook - Physical Education, page thirty-six: http://cdm16122.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/ref/collection/p15370coll2/id/4424.
