Black Student demonstrators coming out of the Administration Building (May 14, 1969)
Description:
A slide showing black student demonstrations exciting the Administration Building on the campus of Springfield College. It is believed this was taken on May 14, 1969. There is a crowd surrounding the door, many with fists raised. Leading the students out of the building is Dr. Jesse Parks. Behind Parks is Robert "Bob" McCarthy (on his right, wearing dashiki), John Woodruff (on his left, wearing a black jacket), and Don Brown (who is behind McCarthy on his left). Both Woodruff and McCarthy are both seen giving the closed-fist “Black Power Salute.". This slide is part of a collection of 46 slides. On the sleeves that held the slides was the title "Campus Unrest". No other documentation was with the slides. It is not known whether these slides were part of a presentation or meant to be used as a group. When the slides were digitized it was decided that each slide would be regarded as an individual item rather than being kept together as a group.; Some of these images may have been taken in places other than Springfield College, so may be misidentified.; Legacy Alumni of Color idenfication on June 8th, 2021: Black student protesters exit the Administration Building. Visible here are Robert "Bob" McCarthy (left, wearing a dashiki), Don Brown (behind McCarthy on his left), Dr. Jesse Parks (in front of McCarthy on his left), and John Woodruff (behind Dr. Parks with raised right hand and black jacket).;
