There are gymnastics equipment in the background. Under Coach Frank Wolcott, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team won the 1977 NCAA Division II Championship. It was held at Wheaton College in Illinois on March 25th. The team amassed a total of 395.95 points, easily out distancing second place University of California Northridge. The team finished their dual meet schedule with a record of 5-4, but all defeats came against Division I Schools. On the back of the photograph is written, "Capt. Rich Samuels Vaulting Springfield College."
