Engraving by the celebrated English satirist Thomas Rowlandson of five men celebrating in a cellar as two women look on. Originally, this print accompanied the second volume of William Combe's popular poem, The Three Tours of Doctor Syntax. Syntax, a caricature of the English author William Gilpin, revels with three drunken gentlemen as a fourth pours alcohol from a large barrel into a pitcher. From the top of the stairs above, two women appear jubilantly to egg the men on.
