This copy of a photograph shows three alumni from the International YMCA College, now called Springfield College. They are, left to right, Dr. Frank N. Seerley, Dr. James H. McCurdy, and Dr. James Naismith. All three were alumni and faculty members of Springfield College as well as pioneers in Physical Education and Sport. Among many other accomplishments, Dr. Frank Seerley taught animal mechanics, physiology and hygiene as well as being a Dean at Springfield College. Dr. James McCurdy studied heart rate and blood pressure, and how it was affected during different motor tasks performed by adolescent boys. Dr. James Naismith is most remembered for creating the game of basketball at Springfield College in 1891. This item was original bound in a book titled “War-Work Courses in Great War, 1917-1918 Incomplete.” This volume was unbound and its contents foldered in the original order, which is chronological. The binding string was cut and the glue was removed with a razor blade. The edges are intact and the placement of stitches are visible. Each page or booklet was individually lifted out of the binding and placed in their own folder or a folder with like materials. Oversized materials were removed and placed in the oversized materials collection.
