Raucous scene of a country wake in late 18th-century England. According to the poem beneath the image, the "gentle and simple" merriment here includes "handling cudgels, breaking sculls," "bull baiting," and "dancing on the green sword grass." In the middleground, a monkey even rides on the back of a bear! The engraving is hand-colored, mostly in red and green.
