Making Gentlemen First, then Athletes
Item Information
- Title:
- Making Gentlemen First, then Athletes
- Description:
-
A promotional/fund raising brochure produced by Springfield College, then the International YMCA College. The document was most likely printed in 1923 because the letters within are all dated this year. The document outlines the ideals of the college, some its history, and its financial needs. It then talks about its current fund raising activities to reach a two million dollar fund goal. The majority of the document is made of letters that were sent praising the college. These letters come from colleges such as Oberlin College, Williams College, and Hamilton College; the Department of Education of Massachusetts; and some organizations like the National Amateur Athletic Federation of America and the Playground and Recreation Association of America. This document was inside the time capsule for Springfield College's Alumni Hall which was opened in June 2017. The Alumni Hall time capsule was placed in the cornerstone of Alumni Hall on September 22, 1926. The time capsule was removed from the cornerstone during renovations conducted in 2015. The time capsule was officially opened on June 10, 2017 during reunion weekend.
