<mods:abstract>This photograph shows six students seated around a table, dining, in a room of the Dormitory Building (now the Administration Building) at the International YMCA Training School (now Springfield College). According to the donor, James Carson '10 is the man on the front right. Future Springfield College president Ernest M. Best '11 is center front in profile. Based on the information of a lantern slide, James Stewart Summers '11 is leaning on chair at left, and William Andrew Wilkinson '11 is on the back left, pouring what may be tea. James Morley Carson is a member of class 1910. He is from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Enrolled in Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School) in 1907, Carson served as Class President in his junior year, involved in the Debate Team and the Treasurer School Club, and worked as an Assistant Editor for the Massasoit. He was also president for the British Society and the Senate. He served as secretary of the YMCA in Quebec City from 1909 to 1915, became manager of the Mutual Life Insurance Company at Saint John in 1928, and held the post until 1947. James Carson passed on Nov. 9, 1968. Ernest Best began his career as a student at Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School), graduating in 1911. He returned in 1913 as a teacher of Religious Education and Normal Religious Work. In 1916 he left Springfield College to go overseas and join the war effort as a Senior Officer with the Canadian YMCA War Services in France. In 1937 he returned to Springfield College as its fifth president, a position he held until 1945. Archives does not have the original physical item. The photo was scanned and small tiff file was sent by donor. At acquisition, file was printed and put into the student folder, and jpg file was made.</mods:abstract>
