This is an envelope for Edwin Ruggles, a Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School) alumnus. It was probably used to preserve Ruggles's student files for the Secretary Department at the school. The front of the envelope has a paper with notes attached to it (shown on first page). The front of the envelope shows when Ruggles's application and recommendations were received, and that it was not sure if Ruggles would be a member of Class 1893 or 1894. The flap probably indicates that Ruggles were transferred to Physical Department in 1893. Nothing is on the back of the envelope. Edwin P. Ruggles is a member of Class 1895 of Springfield College (then known as International YMCA Training School). He was a member of the first men to ever play the game of basketball in 1891. Ruggles was born in 1873 in Milton, Massachusetts. He studied for the medical profession in the State University of Iowa, and earned his degree of M. D. in the Boston University School of Medicine in 1900. He became a practice physician after graduation.
