<mods:abstract>This obituary is for Frederick D. Griggs from 1942. This is written by a organization he was part of titled Kiwanis. This organization served the community and helped those in need. The obituary has an image of Griggs and discusses the work he did through the organization. Frederick David Griggs was born November 2, 1890 in Massachusetts to Frederick B. Griggs and Addie Griggs. Frederick D. Griggs had seven siblings and graduated from Chicopee High School. Griggs graduated the Massachusetts Agricultural College, now University of Massachusetts Amherst, in 1913. During school, he worked with the Springfield Republican as a student reporter, received varsity for track, was president of student senate, was a member of the rifle team, and a member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. Griggs attended University of Missouri School of Journalism to complete graduate work in 1914 returned to Massachusetts to work as an editor for the alumni bulletin as MA Agricultural College. He married Gladys M. Hinkley and after some years, married Anne Hawthorne. Griggs. He was elected for state representative in 1925 and in 1928 he was appointed as a trustee as MA Agricultural College until he died from illness at the age of 52, December 22, 1942. The original document was scanned from a scrapbook and donated to Springfield College in 2019. A print copy of the file was created and placed in the student folder of John Storey, whose scrapbook it came from.;</mods:abstract>
