A handwritten letter from Mr. Morie Miyata to Dr. Doggett, dated April 27, 1908. In the letter Mr. Miyata explains a little about his background and states that attached to the letter, Dr. Doggett would find his admission application for the International YMCA Training school. Mr. Miyata also gives some information about his YMCA experience, working closely to Reverend W. A. Davis, a missionary working for the YMCA in Nagasaki, Japan. Mr. Miyata also states that Rev. Davis and Mr. Fisher, both working for the Nagasaki YMCA, wrote letters of recommendation on his behalf. Mr. Miyata, originally from Nagasaki, Japan, was born in 1880, and applied and was accepted to the secretarial program of the International YMCA Training School (now Springfield College), graduating in 1911. Mr. Miyata roomed with Yosokichi Morise (Class of 1909), and was well known for his tennis abilities being part of the Tennis Varsity Team, “winning two of the five tournaments in which competed” (The Massasoit, 1911).
