  <mods:abstract>Seven page speech given by Dr. James Naismith on January 5, 1932 at Springfield College. First page describes the issue presented before him to create an indoor game between football and baseball. Second page lists the failures of outdoor sports inside as resulting in injuries to the players and the building. Third page discusses the need for a high goal inspired by the finesse of shooting the duck off the rock, a childhood game in Naismith's youth. Fourth page describes Naismith's original need for a box instead he received peach baskets. Fifth page discusses women in sports. Sixth page discusses Naismith's motto and outlook on life that he must leave it a little better than he found it. Seventh page is an anecdote of two men returning a hat to a man on a horse.
