  <mods:abstract>This is a photograph that shows Springfield College Biology Professor Dr. John Brainerd speaking in front of a podium. In the photograph, Dr. Brainerd is wearing a suit and tie and a pair of glasses. He is standing and speaking with his hands placed on the podium. A display board with many portrait photographs and drawings can be seen behind him. A stamp on the back of the photograph says "MAR 25 1959," suggesting that it was printed on March 25, 1959. When the photograph was taken is unknown. Dr. John Brainerd was a professor and head of the Biology Department at Springfield College. He specialized in ecological botany and conservation education, and he was active in many fields of conservation. He earned his PhD at Harvard University and was with the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Wildlife Service before coming to SC. He retired in 1980.</mods:abstract>
