A newspaper obituary titled, "Grace Boyle Dies; Played Basketball for Dr. Naismith" from May 11, 1975. This article is one page and shows a picture of Boyle with her University of Kansas teammates in 1906. The article was published on May 11, 1975 by a newspaper in Virginia. A written note at the top suggests the newspaper had the word "Star" in its name, but there are four papers published in Virginia that fit that description, so the exact newspaper is unknown. Boyle was a member of one of the first women’s college basketball teams, which was coached by Dr. James A. Naismith (the inventor of basketball). Boyle grew up in Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas at Lawrence in 1906. After graduation, Boyle taught Latin, English and history in Kansas high schools. She retired from teaching in 1923 to care for her ailing mother and, after her sister-in-law’s death, helped her brother raise his daughters. In 1943, she moved to Arlington to live with her sister. Boyle was a member of the Clarendon Methodist Church and past president of the Ft. Myer Heights chapter of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
