A prospective plan of the battle fought near Lake George on the 8th of September, 1775 ... /
Description:
Copperplate, engraved by Thomas Johnston after the drawing by Samuel Blodget. Includes a map of the Hudson River north to Fort William Henry and Fort Edward. Also includes aerial views of the "bloody morning scout" or ambush in which Col. Ephraim Williams, Jr., among many British regulars and Mohawk allies, was killed, and of the larger battle at the British encampment on Lake George. Hand-colored; mounted on linen. The first battle plan published in America. Chapin Library copy lacks the pamphlet with which the map was originally published and which provided a key to details. An original copy of the pamphlet is available in the Fisher Howe collection in the Williams College Archives, MC244, Volume 4. In total, Williams has one copy of the pamphlet, two copies of the 1755 Boston-printed plan (one Archives, one Chapin, both unbound), and two copies of the 1756 London-printed plan (both Archives, one bound, one unbound).
