  <mods:abstract>An image from below of of circus performers on the high wire. One clown walks the tight-rope while another performs on the trapeze behind him. Several suspended acrobats watch. Riggs was an American printmaker well-known, especially during the Great Depression, for his scenes of circuses and other popular entertainment, as well as hospitals and psychiatric wards. He trained in France after his service their during the World War I, and spent much of his career as an illustrator in Philadelphia.</mods:abstract>
