<mods:abstract>A four-page souvenir program from the November 23, 1912 Springfield College vs. the Carlisle Indians. The program has the team lineups, the record of Springfield College, including the handwritten score of this game, and notes to help the spectator understand the game. The famous football game of Springfield College vs. the Indian Carlisle was held on November 23, 1912. Ultimately, Springfield lost 30-24, with Jim Thorpe scoring every point for the Carlisle Indians. Jacobus Franciscus "Jim" Thorpe (May 28, 1888 – March 28, 1953) was an American athlete who played football for the Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Pennsylvania. Considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports, he won Olympic gold medals for the 1912 pentathlon and decathlon, played football (collegiate and professional), and also played professional baseball and basketball. Thorpe retired from athletic competition at the age of 41. The photograph comes from the scrapbook of Lois Laun, Class of 1915.</mods:abstract>
