<mods:abstract>This letter, addressed to Mr. Hutchin H. Tibbetts (1904-1996), was written by International Y.M.C.A. College's (now Springfield College) Secretary of the Physical Course, John D. Brock. The letter denied Tibbetts from attending the school because he was Catholic and the school had already met the fulfillment for Roman Catholics that they allowed. At the time, the school was a Protestant Institution and therefore only admitted a certain number of Roman Catholics who had previous technical training in physical education or a college education. The letter also suggests other schools that Tibbetts could apply who would accept Catholics. The letter was written on June 22, 1927. The letter also mispeled his name as Hutchins. Hutchin H. Tibbetts's son, Michael, went on to attend Springfield College and graduated in 1961. Hutchin H. Tibbetts graduated from Ithaca College in 1932. After graduation, he taught and coached at Cherry Valley and Sherburne Central Schools and Amsterdam from 1933 to 1947. He went on to serve 55 years at Saratoga Springs Sports High School as the Athletic Director, Health and Physical Education teacher and a varsity coach. He coached men's varsity basketball and varsity football for many years and varsity wrestling for four years. He also enjoyed bicycling, and would ride to and from all of his P.E. classes. His honors and awards include: City of Saratoga Springs Sports Hall of Fame (inducted in 1993), Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame (inducted in 1995), Saratoga Springs High School Blue Streak Hall of Fame (inducted in 2012), Hutchin Tibbetts Varsity Sports Club award (for over 55 years of service), and the New York State Health, Physical Education and Recreation Award (1984).</mods:abstract>
