Each pair of leaves includes two pages of text on one side of the leaves, and a painting of a scene from the legend of Phra Malai on the other side. One of the paintings depicts the offering of a lotus flower. The paintings are framed by a red border on the left side and a yellow, red, and blue floral border on the right side. Title devised by cataloger. Abhidhamma Chet Khampi fragments. Chapin Library, Williams College. Purchased from eBay, March 2019. The Abhidhamma Chet Khampi is a common 19th-century manuscript genre of Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. This version of the Abhidhamma Chet Khampi typically, as here, includes the legend of Phra Malai, a monk who travels to the realms of heavens and hells and returns to warn the lay community of the effects of the law of karma.
