An invitation card to an ice cream social, part of the Japan YMCA Colleges Summer Institute held from July 21 to August 13, 1990 at Springfield College. The card is addressed to Kenneth Wall and thanks him for his help and assistance. The card is dated August 7, 1990. The middle page has two origami swans on either side. The summer institute was organized by the endeavors of Hideyo Fujii, executive director of the Osaka Takatsuki YMCA and of John L. Neumann, associate professor of Springfield College. The summer program was a common event that took place during the 1980’s and the 1990’s as part of an agreement between Springfield College and the Japan YMCA’s. John L. Neumann was Springfield College Professor Emeritus, Chairman of the National Senior Games Emeritus, Medical Psychotherapist, Springfield College football coach and founder of the Massachusetts Senior Games. Professor Neumann helped generations of students, athletes, and senior citizens improve and enrich their lives over his 57 year career as an educator, administrator, football coach, and psychotherapist. Professor Neumann received his Bachelor of Science Degree at Springfield College in 1951 and his Master of Education Degree from Springfield College in 1956. His education beyond his last degree included 45 semester hours of coursework in the Doctoral Program at the State University of Iowa and the Graduate Studies Program at the University of Massachusetts. His Springfield College career began in 1965 when he was hired by Coach Ted Dunn to serve as Offensive Coordinator for the Springfield College football team. That year, Springfield college football had an undefeated season which was followed by six straight winning seasons. He left coaching when he was asked by the college to take on administrative responsibilities. 2nd page or inside of card was taken by a camera, and was not scanned.
