<mods:abstract>A photograph with Springfield College swimming and diving coach, John Taffe, with a member of the Springfield College Women's Swimming and Diving team. They are standing beside the pool in Linkletter Natatorium on the campus of Springfield College. Both the swimmer and John have one hand raised to their mouth in a pensive gesture. There is a Gatorade tub beside the bleachers. Taffe also serves as an assistant professor of physical education. Taffe has coached countless NCAA All-Americans and conference champions at Springfield College. In 1994 and 1998, he received the New England Women's Coach of the Year. He also received NEWMAC Women’s Coach of the Year recognition for four straight years from 2001 to 2005 and was once again honored in 2008 and 2010. Taffe served as the head coach for the Netherlands-Antilles squad at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, coaching SC All-American Howard Hinds, a 2000 graduate. Prior to joining the Springfield College staff in 1989, Taffe served as the men's and women's coach at Mount Union College in Ohio for one season and head women's coach at East Carolina University for two seasons. A native of Haverhill, Mass., Taffe attended the University of Rhode Island, where he was a five-time New England swimming champion as well as a two-time All-New England water polo selection for the Rams. Taffe received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from URI in 1985 and his master’s degree in education from East Carolina in 1988.</mods:abstract>
