A portrait photograph of Clair E. Turner. Clair E. Turner (1890-1974) was a pioneer in public health. Turner was a professor of public health at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1914 until his retirement in 1944. He established the first program leading to the degree of Master of Public Health at M.I.T. and taught the first advanced course in health education as head of the department of public health and biology. Dr. Turner also taught at Tuft's University and the University of California Berkeley.
