Description:
This photograph shows the initial stages of the construction of the Springfield College Richard B. Flynn Campus Union in March of 2009. There is snow on the ground and the frame of the building is in place. Part of the original student union, Woods Hall, is visible. Alden street, Abbey-Appleton Hall, and Blake field are in the background of this image. The Richard B. Flynn Campus Union is Springfield College’s student union, dedicated to student activities and services. In 2008, the old Student Union, Woods Hall and the Beveridge Center were demolished to make room for the new Campus Union. Parts of the original walls of the Beveridge Center were maintained and became a part of the new Campus Union. The Groundbreaking Ceremony took place on Friday, June 13, 2008. The Richard B. Flynn Campus Union opened to the public in January 2010 after 18 months of construction. The Campus Union is named for the 12th president, Dr. Richard B. Flynn, of Springfield College for his leadership in the transformation of Springfield College during his presidency from 1999 to 2013. The dedication and the ribbon cutting ceremonies took place on February 4, 2010.
