<mods:abstract>A copy of newspaper clipping of a photograph taken of Springfield College students published by The Boston Post on February 2, 1922. The caption title says, "Springfield YMCA College Seniors and Bathing Girls in one pose that caused furore at College." The photo shows four young women in bathing suits riding on a sled that is being pulled by two students, Earl Taraldsen and Arthur Schaeffer (both names spelled wrong in the newspaper article), across a frozen Watershops Pond (Lake Massasoit as it was called at Springfield College). The students are in their swimming trunks. According to the newspaper article the two students were suspended for their actions. Earl Taraldsen is a graduate of Springfield College in 1922. Earl Taraldsen's entire professional career was dedicated to the YMCA. Over the years he has coached most sports, especially gymnastics, and has served as a judge and official for schools and YMCAs. Most of his career was with the New York City YMCA. He served the Grand Central Railroad YMCA Branch for 28 years as Physical Director and later as Executive. He was awarded the Tarbell Medallion Award in 1972. Original item was scanned by donor and sent as a jpg file. A copy was printed out and placed in the folder.</mods:abstract>
