  <mods:abstract>A three-page letter from Charles D. Hewson to Ralph L. Cheney, date unknown. In this letter, Hewson asks Cheney to express his thanks to those who sent parcels during Christmas time, as it made him happy. He also wrote about an upcoming dinner he is having with Ed Smith, who was leaving for France. Lastly, he writes his opinion on the Kaiser's Peace Note and states that Springfield was well represented by all the men doing Y work overseas. Ralph L. Cheney served as the head of Springfield College’s Secretarial Department from 1907 to 1924. Before taking this position, he worked as a YMCA secretary in Albany and Niagara Falls, New York. Charles D. Hewson was part of the Springfield Class of 1919. He did not graduate but left shortly after he arrived to join the Canadian troops in World War I - records show that he arrived in September 1915 and left in January 1916. He was killed in action on April 9, 1917, at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.</mods:abstract>
