<mods:abstract>This news release written by Joseph T. McAleer, the Public Relations Director at Springfield College in 1980, discusses the agreement signed between Venezuela and Springfield College to educate 14 Venezuelan coaches for the 1983 Pan American Games, which was hosted by Venezuela. The news release was written on October 7, 1980. Springfield College's ninth President, Wilbert E. Locklin, and Oswaldo Borges, President of the National Sports Institute, signed the agreement. Dr. Frank Fu (Fu Haojian / 傅浩堅; 傅浩坚)discussed the agreement in the news release. The coaching program would include classes in coaching theory and methodology, team practice, techniques and physical conditioning. Dr. Frank H. Fu served as the Director of Springfield College's International Center. He became Springfield's director in 1978 and stayed until 1983. As the director, he coordinated the activities and programs of the Doggett Memorial International Center. Dr. Fu received a diploma and certificate from St. Paul's College in Hong Kong in 1968 and a Bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College in 1971. He was then awarded a Master's degree from Springfield College in 1973, and a Doctorate in Physical Education from Springfield in 1975. In 1979, Dr. Fu visited Hong Kong to lecture students on physical education programs and the differences among them from country to country. He worked to promote and establish foreign exchange programs.</mods:abstract>
