<mods:abstract>This is a portrait photograph of Donald C. Ducharme. Lieut. Donald C. Ducharme '43, U.S.M.C. was killed August 4, 1943 when the navy plane he was piloting crashed in a take-off from Lake City, Fla. Born in Springfield, Mass., the son of Mr and Mrs. Fred 0. Ducharme, the young man had completed three years of his course at Springfield College when he enlisted in the Navy Air Corps in December of 1941 and was called into service in June of 1942. After his advanced flight training he volunteered for transfer to the Marine Corps as an aviator and was commissioned a second lieutenant in May 18. At Springfield Lieut. Ducharme was an outstanding player on the football, baseball, and hockey teams and was a member of the Maroon Key Society. This description was taken, verbatim, from the Springfield College Bulletin.
