A photograph of Mary-Beth Cooper, president of Springfield College, playing a Koto, a traditional Japanese string instrument. In the photo she is seated and there is woman in traditional Japanese dress at her shoulder showing her how to play. The photograph is believed to have been taken during a visit to Japan in 2014. Dr. Mary-Beth Cooper began her presidency as the 13th president of Springfield College in August 2013. Prior to the Springfield College presidency, Cooper served as senior vice president for student affairs at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in New York. She joined RIT in 2001, after having been dean of students at the University of Rochester since 1997 and, prior to that, vice president for student affairs at St. John Fisher College. Cooper has two doctorates—a doctor of philosophy in education administration from Michigan State University and a doctor of management from Case Western Reserve University. She also has a master’s degree in education from the University of Georgia, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Rochester, and a bachelor of arts from the University of Delaware.
