  <mods:abstract>A letter from Laurence L. Doggett to Robert H. Mann written on June 30, 1919). In the letter, Doggett thanks Mann for sending him a letter and photograph from army camp which will be placed in the Library exhibit. He mentions how the College only has 140-150 enrolled for the fall and asks if he knows any Englishmen who might like to enroll. Doggett was Springfield College's fourth president. He was also the first full-time president and served in the position from 1896-1936. Under Doggett's leadership, Springfield College expanded its student body and faculty. Doggett also oversaw the building of a new gymnasium, library, swimming pool, and athletics. Doggett was instrumental in developing and implementing the College's Humanics philosophy which still guides the college to this day. He retired in 1936 and remains Springfield College's longest-tenured president. Dr. Laurence L. Doggett died in 1957 at the age of 92. Robert H. Mann was part of the Springfield College Class of 1914. He did not graduate, but attended the school from 1910 to 1913. Though Mann was barred from the army on account of his eyes, he became the secretary of Liverpool Dock Huts Committee Y.M.C.A for the improvement of the condition of docks and other laborers.</mods:abstract>
