  <mods:abstract>A newspaper article titled, "Scientist Makes Poetry of Earth's Splendor's" written by Kim Hessberg and published by the Springfield Daily News. The article was published on October 27, 1978. The article is about Springfield College biology professor John W. Brainerd. There are many photographs of John Brainerd within the article. Dr. John Brainerd was a professor and head of the Biology Department at Springfield College. He specialized in ecological botany and conservation education, and he was active in many fields of conservation. He earned his PhD at Harvard University and was with the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Wildlife Service before coming to SC. He retired in 1980.</mods:abstract>
