A portrait picture of Gertrude E. Moulton. Gertrude E. Moulton was born on June 5, 1880, in Rio Grande, Ohio. Moulton received her B.S. from Indiana University in 1917. She was appointed head of the Physical Education department at the University of Illinois in 1909 and by 1919 received her M.D. from there. From 1919 to 1923, she was a medical advisor for women at the University of Illinois. in 1923, she accepted an appointment as director of physical education for women and professor of hygiene and physical education at Oberlin College. In 1952, she was a consultant for the New York University travel-study group which attended the Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. She also participated in the First World Seminar on Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Youth Work. She also served as president of the AAHPER and of the National and Midwest Associations of Directors of Physical Education for Women in Colleges and Universities.
