A photograph showing two men standing in front of their sleeping tent at Camp Hamilton in Lexington Kentucky, ca. 1898. One man is identified as J. Maguire, though which he is is not clear. The other man's name is unable to be read. Written on the back of the photograph is, "J. Maguire J. H. [illegible] / YMCA Camp Hamilton Lexington Ky / Before their sleeping tent". See back of photograph to verify information. Like many southern military structures, Camp Hamilton was erected by early settlers for their protection. During the Spanish American War and its operation, it housed the Signal Corps, Second Division, the First Territorial, the Twelfth New York, Third Missouri, and Tenth Immunes. However, all vestige of the camp has now disappeared. The exact location Camp Hamilton is not positively known today, but reference is made to them in State histories, State papers, etc.
