A photograph of Springfield College's social and dining hall, Woods Hall, during its renovation and reconstruction in 1961. The photograph shows dump trucks out in front of the South side and the start, with the South wing, of the demolition of the building. A gift of Mrs. Eleanor S. Woods, Woods Hall was erected on May 23, 1904 and dedicated on September 28 of that same year. The building was renovated a number of times during its existence. This photograph was taken during the most significant renovation occurring in 1961, around the same time the Beveridge Center was built. At this time it received a complete face-lift leaving it unrecognizable as the original Woods Hall. The partial demolition and renovation of Woods Hall provided more seating capacity, a faculty dining room and a conference room on the first floor and a large multi-purpose room on the second floor. The renovation, which cost close to $300,000 was part of a two phase renovation program on campus which completely altered the original structure of the building. In 2008, Woods Hall was demolished to make way for the construction of the Richard B. Flynn Campus Union which was dedicated on February 4, 2010.
