First Four Presidents: Laurence L. Doggett, David Allen Reed, Charles Henry Barrows, and Henry S. Lee
Description:
A lantern slide of Springfield College's first four presidents. They include (from L to R, standing) David Allen Reed (1881-1891), Laurence Locke Doggett (1896-1936), (from L to R, seated) Charles Henry Barrows (1893-1896) and Henry S. Lee (1891-1893). David Allen Reed was a co-founder and the first president of the school. Henry S. Lee was the second president, from 1891 to 1893. Charles Henry Barrows served as president from 1894 to 1896 and Laurence L. Doggett served as the college's longest running president to date, from 1896 until 1936. For more information on L.L. Doggett, see https://springfield.as.atlas-sys.com/agents/people/589. A facsimile of this image was found with an SC number (SC18892) and a note saying that it was scanned from a glass negative. However, no glass negative can be found and the facsimile is identical to the lantern slide. We do not know whether the facsimile was made from the lantern slide or from a glass negative that is now missing. The SC file was not large enough to justify keeping and was discarded in January 2014.
