A photograph of an event promoted by the Cosmopolitan Club of Springfield College in October, 1948. According to a caption on the back of the photograph, the event was held to entertain the United Nation’s secretaries. Dr. Wiel, faculty advisor for international students, stands first from the left in the photograph. Wiel was born in Wiljandi, Estonia on March 2, 1893. During World War I, he served in France as a Sergeant in the field artillery. Wiel worked at American International College from 1932 until 1946, when he began teaching history and international relations at Springfield College. Based on Catalog listings, Dr. Wiel appears to have left Springfield College in 1960. A caption on the back reads "Cosmopolitan Club entertains United Nations' Secretaries October 1948".
