  <mods:abstract>This photograph shows the Appleton tennis courts that are located on the Springfield College campus. The tennis courts are used for both the Springfield men and women's tennis teams as well as the tennis courses offered at the college. The picture shows two of the tennis courts, with a few students playing on each. The Physical Education Complex is shown in the background and several cars are parked in front of the complex. The tennis courts were named after Leirion H. Appleton, who donated to the school in memory of her husband Edward A. Appleton, former President of the Corporation of Springfield. Mrs. Appleton had remained an anonymous benefactress to Springfield College for over a decade. The picture is not dated, but is assumed to have taken between 1960 and 2000.</mods:abstract>
