The settlement suffered the hardships of the King Philip’s War in 1675, but the establishment of a plant for the repairing of muskets during the American Revolution resulted in a permanent relocation of the United States Armory which impulsed the city’s industry. Today, the city is the third biggest city in the state of Massachusetts and it is home of five universities and colleges, including Springfield College.
