A photograph showing five soldiers sitting in front of a tent at Camp Hamilton in Lexington Kentucky, ca. 1898. In front of the group are four guns standing in a pile. Written on the back of the photograph is, "5 Boys of 2nd Mo. U.S. Vols /Middle one detailed at Chickamauga/YMCA Earnest Christian man". See back of photograph to verify information. Like many southern military structures, Camp Hamilton was erected by early settlers for their protection. During the Spanish American War and its operation, it housed the Signal Corps, Second Division, the First Territorial, the Twelfth New York, Third Missouri, and Tenth Immunes. However, all vestige of the camp has now disappeared. The exact location Camp Hamilton is not positively known today, but reference is made to them in State histories, State papers, etc.
