<mods:abstract>This is a black-and-white photograph of George R. Hearn (class of 1947), an alumnus of the International YMCA College, now called Springfield College. He is holding two Indian clubs above his head and staring at the camera. George Hearn was born on January 3, 1919 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He attended Springfield College from 1940 to 1942 and again from 1946 to 1947, during which time he earned his bachelor’s degree. During the four gap years, he appears to have attended Gannon College and Pennsylvania State College, although he ultimately returned to Springfield College. After graduating, he immediately enrolled in Springfield College’s M.Ed. program, from which he earned his master’s in 1948. In both 1948 and 1949, he won the Amateur Athletic Union's (AAU) Indian Club Championship. In 1955, he earned his doctorate from New York University. After graduation, Rutgers University hired him as an assistant professor of physiology (he had previously worked there as a lecturer). In September 1958, he left Rutgers University to work as an associate professor and director of the physical education research laboratory at the State College of Washington. In 1964, he was hired as an associate professor of physical therapy at Ithaca College (New York). Hearn published and presented numerous papers and served on many of the college’s committees.
