  <mods:abstract>This is a black-and-white photograph of Clement G. Perkins (class of 1940), an alumnus of the International YMCA College, now called Springfield College. This picture shows him standing next to a juggling kit and holding an unidentified object. This was part of a routine that the Springfield College gymnasts performed during exhibition shows. He was a member of the varsity gymnastics squad all four years. He also spent two years in the school band, two semesters as a gymnastics stunts tutor, and an unknown amount of time on the International Scholarship Drive Committee. The history of gymnastics at Springfield College stretches nearly as far back as the school’s founding in 1885. Leslie Judd, widely considered a father of modern gymnastics, was the team’s first coach. Dr. James Naismith, the creator of basketball, was an early member of the team.</mods:abstract>
